Glaucoma is an eye disease which shows no symptoms in the early stages. However, if left undetected and untreated, glaucoma can go on to cause serious and permanent vision problems. This is why it is so important to have periodic glaucoma testing Paradise
. Our eye doctor will thoroughly check your eye health during our comprehensive eye exam. The presence of glaucoma is tested for during a comprehensive eye exam by having your intraocular pressure tested. Sometimes, additional tests will need to be run to make a definitive diagnosis. If glaucoma is caught early during an eye exam, it can usually be easily treated with medicated eye drops which are prescribed at our practice. These eye drops will keep your intraocular pressure low, and keep the glaucoma from advancing. This means that you will not suffer any vision damage from this disease. However, if you do not have an eye exam and the eye disease progresses, you can experience permanent damage to your optic nerve. During our comprehensive eye exams, glaucoma is not the only eye disease that you will be tested for. Among the other eye diseases which you will be screened for are: cataracts; macular degeneration; diabetic retinopathy; retinal tears; dry eyes; and many other problems of the cornea, macula, and retina. During our eye exams your eyes will also be tested for their visual acuity. If our eye doctor determines that you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism, he or she will write a lens prescription for you which will have you seeing clearly.
