There are several treatments that our Whitney optometrists will discuss with you in order to find the most suitable one. A commonly employed treatment at our practice is the use of artificial tears or ointments. These are available over-the-counter or by prescription. Restasis is a prescription eye drop that has proven to be effective for chronic dry eye. Our
Whitney optometrists will help you decide which brand of eye drops is best for you and instruct you on how to use them. R Another option that is used for more chronic cases of dry eye is a punctual occlusion—either temporary or permanent. This procedure closes the ducts that drain tears out of your eyes (which causes the dry eye) using a plug that is either temporary and will dissolve or will be there permanently depending on the doctor’s orders. For even more advanced cases of dry eye, surgery may be necessary.
